Storage
Alto has tons of storage! There is a plastic set of drawers under the V-berth. You can see the added shelf above the V-berth which adds a huge amount of storage. These plastic drawers and boxes are from Walmart. The berths lift up for a ton of storage underneath each (paddles, dinghy parts, diving gear, etc.) and in the middle is a separate compartment where spare filters, zincs and mechanical equipment is stored.

The “Cave” under the dinette is large enough for a person to sleep in. I just pull out the 4’ long plastic bin shown below left which stores the two sets of bimini side curtains (screens and plastic window sets. On top are the cushions for the aft seat in the cockpit. If you have a friend sleeping in the berth, you can pull out the plastic bin and set it on top of the woodwork over the V-berth door where it is out of the way. When underway, no one is in the spare berth so you stick the bin back in there. There is plenty of hanging storage in the Cave, as well.

Here’s more storage under the dinette seating. The SS ladder that attaches to help you climb up on the roof is stored in the cabinet on the left, along with 60’ of emergency tow rope and a large tool satchel. There are two pull-out drawers under the dinette table for kitchen gear and stationary supplies. To the right there is a dashboard opening where I keep a Ryobi battery charger which you can see to plugged into the cigarette lighter under the stereo on the right. Also in there are dive masks, manuals, and tons of other stuff.

Here’s the medicine chest in the bathroom, and a huge storage area under the sink that extends under the step in the cockpit. You can put six rolls of toilet paper in there, see a roll on its side in the center image. Under the shower is a handy shelf with more storage underneath.

In the cockpit there is a bait well, which can be used for other storage like 50’ of shore power cable and a spare garden hose. Under it is a large double-door lazarette. Not shown is a giant floor lazarette on the starboard side (similar to the port-side AGM battery compartment shown below, but much bigger). It is big enough to hold an outboard motor, locked out-of-sight and away from the elements. You can see the floor hatch to the left in the center picture. There’s a hand exit direct to the swim platform for exiting the boat without having to step over the side. Of course, there is lighting in the cockpit should you return after dark.
